Professor i turismvetenskap Tourism work is often seen as exploitative with low pay and unsocial hours and employing mostly young people, women and new migrants. Using the idea of ‘decent work’, this lecture will ask the question: can tourism work can ever be ‘decent’. Through a social sustainability lens, the lecture will highlight that this is not ‘just’ a concern for management but needs to be approached from an interdisciplinary societal perspective that put employees, their families and communities at the forefront of future discussions.
